The historical centre of Granada has a high concentration of shops that range from small local ones to national and international chains. They are located around the Gran Via de Colon and Reyes Catolicos
, which both have some of the oldest shops in the city. You will also find shops along Calle Mesones
, which is where many of the top fashion and accessories brands are located. Calle Alhóndiga, Calle San Antón, Calle Angel Ganivet, Calle Recogidas, Calle Puentezuelas and Calle Zacatín
are popular with locals and visitors alike. Zacatín literally means ‘clothes markets’ and this was where fabrics and textile products were sold in the Muslim period.
Located between the Cathedral and the Calle Reyes Catolicos there is an interesting shopping area that is like a small Arab market. It is the ideal place for purchasing souvenirs.
Centuries ago, in the Nasrid period, it was the silk market that stretched from Plaza Nueva to Bib-Rambla. It would remain unchanged until the evening of 19th
of July of 1843, when a shop fire in Calle Mesones destroyed it. It was rebuilt in a similar fashion, in neo-Moorish style, and today most of the shops around here sell traditional and artisan products.
These are large, modern buildings equipped with all the facilities and services you need, are located just outside the historic city centre. The largest centres in Granada are the Neptuno Sopping Centre and Serrallo Plaza Mall
, each of which containing over 100 shops. In the province of Granada, other great shopping areas include the Kinépolis Commercial Park and Alameda Mall, both located in Pulianas
, only 20 minutes in car from the centre of Granada. The Albán Commercial Park in Armilla and Alhsur in La Zubia
are both less than 10 minutes away. They have a number of clothes shops, jewellery shops, shoe shops as well as bars, restaurants, discos and cinemas.
