Flamenco, as an art, can be studied. The highest academic level of cante jondo is taught by the Cátedra de flamencología, directed by the magnificent Granada dancer María Guardia. In this Flamenco Dance School, located in Santa Clotilde in Granada, María Guardia maintains the essence of the cante grande and its dance. It was the University of Granada who pioneered this academy, granting the director of the school the title of Professor in the 1990s, making it the first officially recognized flamenco professorship in the world.
