María Guardia ‘Mariquilla’
She was born in the Sacromonte quarter Granada, a part of the city that is closely linked with the tradition of flamenco. At a young age she went to Madrid to dance with Manolo Caracol. She then became the manager of a tablao in Torremolinos for 20 years. The first singers of cante jondo performed there. Currently she teaches talented young dancers in her role as Lecturer of Flamencología and at the María Guardia Dance Centre.
