Cruz de la Atalaya (Padre Ferrer)

The Sierra de El Manar, in Padul, boasts numerous privileged viewpoints over Sierra Nevada and the Valle de Lecrín (Lecrín Valley). One of these is the Cruz de la Atalaya, a vantage point over the town and its surroundings. The route follows the path PR- A- 376, named of the Padre Manuel Ferrer Muñoz in honor of this Jesuit priest, mountaineer and naturalist.
Outside the town boundaries there is a display panel in which you can view the route details.
You may also see wild goats wandering about this area. In fact, during the excursion, one comes across some refuges used by goatherds that still contain old pillows and blankets. You might also be lucky enough to spot a fox.
From here, the Valle de Lecrín seems very small and next to which waters of the Laguna de Padul shimmer. This is dotted with small lagoons and numerous springs that spill out their waters into drainage channels called madres (literally mothers) by the locals.
