PDO Granada Wines

The Protected Designation of Origin Wines of Granada was created in 2009 in recognition of the efforts of local winemakers who have been producing excellent wines in recent years.

There are currently around 22 wine producers in the province with the official label P.D.O. Wines of Granada. The Regulatory Council of the P.D.O allows the production of white, rosé, red, sparkling and natural sweet wines.

This label is given to wines that adhere to certain standards of production, aging and bottling and can only be given to wines made from the following grape varieties:

  • White grapes: Vijiriego, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Moscatel de Alejandría, Moscatel de grano menudo or Morisca, Pedro Ximenez, Palomino, Baladí Verdejo and Torrontés.
  • Black grapes: Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Monastrell, Romé and Petit Verdot.
  • Sparkling wine grapes: Vijiriego, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Moscatel de Alejandría, Moscatel de grano menudo, Morisca and Torrontés.
