Cogollos de Guadix is located on the northern edge of the Parque Nacional de la Sierra Nevada, in part of the mountain area that the Arabs called Sened. Its magnificent natural setting makes it the perfect place for hiking, biking and riding. In places like Pantaneto, the old Casa Forestal, the Peñón de la Imagen, the Ruta de los Molinos Árabes and the Camino de las Viñas you can make the most of the mountain area and its amazing springs.

Cogollos de Guadix dates back to Prehistoric times as the remains from the Argaric era found here clearly illustrate. Traces from an Iberian-Roman settlement have also been found here, including coins and jewels from the Punic, Roman and Visigoth periods.

During the early Middle Ages several Christian enclaves around this town worshipped the cult of San Marcos and San Pedro. They gradually disappeared during the Nasrid period. After the Reconquista, the town was given to the Marquis de Villena, in whose hands it would remain until the abolition of the feudal system in the 19th century.

In this town you can enjoy fantastic local almonds and amazing olive oil. Typical dishes include Migas, Andrajos Serrano and Gachas. You can also try the wines from the different areas of the town.
