Monuments

It is Atarfe’s main historical monument and, according to the “Libro de Hábices”, it was built on the site of the former mosque of Xini. It is rectangular in shape and divided into three unequal naves. It has seven altars in total and the main one has a particularly fine tabernacle made of mottled stone dating back to 1818. The tower has three sections, the last of which is the bell tower. The coffered Mudejar ceiling was made in the mid-17^th century. Of all the altarpieces, the one from the 18^th century dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary is fully preserved. The Baroque shrine on the altar of the Sacred Heart is also worthy of note. Other gems in the church include its reliefs, sculptures and statues, as well as the series of 12 paintings of the apostles (known as the “serie apostolado”) made by Granada’s Baroque school.
