The José Guerrero Centre, a leading museum for contemporary art, lies opposite the Royal Chapel, in an award-winning contemporary building. The Province of Granada runs the centre, which is defined as a public space to the benefit of society. It is a place where the values and ideas that have shaped contemporary culture can be questioned and understood.
The centre has a number of temporary exhibitions and an extensive collection of paintings by José Guerrero himself. The artist from Granada was not only one of the most unique in the American Abstract Expressionism movement, but he also significantly influenced the renewal of Spanish art scene during the transition to democracy.
