This defensive fort was built in the 16th century, during the reign of Philip II. It has two bastions. It was rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century, due to its strategic and defensive importance.
The fortress has a unique architectural design, with claw-shaped main structure and two towers, each topped by two further towers with hipped roof. It is one of the most interesting and important buildings in the area. Until recently, it was the headquarters of the local Guardia Civil.
