Easter in Loja is truly unique. Some original characters take part in the celebrations, such as Uncle Puchi Puchi, who is responsible for collecting the Roman armour that was used for the processions on the Wednesday. Incense is burned all day in the streets, dirges are sung continuously, and alms are collected for the Holy Sepulchre. On Maundy Thursday white censers are used and on Friday black ones are used.
On Easter Sunday the Feria de las Mujeres is celebrated.
