The original church, built on the old mosque was burned in the Moorish revolts in 1568. The new church was built around 1607.
The church is rectangular in shape with a single nave. The entrance is topped with a rounded arch with a Maltese cross in the centre, covered with a hipped roof. Inside there is an interesting modern neoclassical tabernacle. The image of Nuestra Señora de la Aurora, by the sculptor Sánchez Mesa from Granada, was made in the 1960s.
