This church and monastery were built at the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a Muslim shrine dating back to the 12th century, destroyed by the Almohads. It is divided into three sections with a main chapel covered by vaulted ceiling, and has a choir at the far end. The church is dedicated to Santa Maria of the Merced, and has a Baroque dressing room in which there is a small sculpture of the Virgin, carved in limestone, which is very well preserved. The convent is inhabited by Franciscan monks.
