Tourist information

This small town is nailed in the depression that separates Sierra Nevada of the Natural Park of the Huétor Mountain range. The town continues conserving the enchantment of the serranos towns and by through its district the Aguas Blancas river flows. A stream of which it is said that its waters are as clear as crystal and that are neither clouded nor muddy even after storms. Dúdar is also one of those towns that preserve with authenticity the old style of its traditional architecture. Very interesting and attractive are the mills that lay out the place, sign of identity of a town with a constructive type blended with the water. Its location between magnificent places and its proximity to the capital turns it into an exceptional place to enjoy nature. As complement, its district is surrounded by orchards of fruit trees and vegetables.

History

Although is only little what it is known about the origin of its name or the antiquity of its foundation, it seems certain that both go back to the Arabic-Andalusian time. In fact to the time when the serranos valleys next to Granada were filled with small farmhouses whose inhabitants were dedicated to the cultivation of the orchards. The first written news about Dúdar are from the XIII century, when it appears as another district of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. It remained Muslim until the conquest by the Catholic Kings in 1492. As the rest of the region it suffered the expulsion of the Moorish from its territory and the later repopulation with settlers of other Spanish kingdoms. It was an old anejo of Quéntar until its independence and its evolution has been very linked to this town.

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Dúdar is characterized by its good dishes of spoon like the soups and the stews, as well as the lamb, beef and rabbit meat. These traditional dishes usually go accompanied with good wines elaborated by its people and the vegetables that they cultivate. The Papas with cod is one of the most typical recipes of the town.
