They are populations of this district: Campo Camara, La Teja, Las Cucharetas and Los Laneros.
Cortes de Baza is located in the northeast end of the Granada province. The area is crossed by the Castril river, that when flows through the district is called Cortes. Its parochial church, of the XV century, that conserves multicolour caisson of mudejar style. Vestiges can be appreciated as well in an old castle, built in the XII century by the Muslims. It has a series of attractive cortijadas dedicated to the practice of the rural tourism. The religious celebrations in honour to San Cosme and San Damián are celebrated the penultimate weekend of August.
Although the data about Cortes de Baza are little, it is known that it has been settlement from the Prehistoric period, as the numerous sites found in the place known as “Hoya de Baza” demonstrate. The region of Baza was inhabited by Phoenicians, Greek, Carthaginian and Roman. This town had a stage of splendour during Arab time, in which the irrigation systems were constructed. They are still conserved at the present time, but decayed after the repression and later rebellion of the Moorish. The area was conquered by the Catholic Kings in 1489 and later it decayed. At Muslim time there was a fortress built in the XIII century before the eminent danger of the Castilian advance and which the location of its foundations can only be distinguished today.
The cereal, fruits and fruity extra virgin olive oil cultivation stand out. The river fishing is also important. The traditional desserts are the gachas, an excellent dessert for cool nights. They are elaborated with flour of wheat, olive oil, fried toasted bread, sugar and dates or plums.
