The town rises over a hill that, in spite of its modest height, allows the view of the wide panorama of arid and plain territories of the region. Its urban core is surrounded by waved landscapes that favour the practice of trekking, cycling and horse riding. In winter its surroundings are covered with white and the temperatures in summer are usually smooth, even cool at dusk.
Its town centre has one of the most original structures of the surrounding area, that has always caught the attention of the geographers, as it can be deduced from the following description of the XIX century: "it has 123 houses that, although badly aligned, form a street that describes an almost complete circle, being linked its ends at the door of the church, where the square is located".
The Dukes of Wellington have in Agrón a great estate called Fatimbullar.
It was not until the arrival of the Arabs when the town was founded. In the "Ihata" of Ibn Al-Jatib it appears mentioned this settlement with the name of Agrum, name of Latin origin that means field. Its present location does not fit nevertheless with the medieval Agrum, that without a doubt would correspond with what today is known as Agrón the Old, whose vestiges can be still seen over a small hill, about three or four kilometres from the town. From 1492, with the reconquest of the Kingdom of Granada by the Catholic Kings, would be part of the Crown. Agrón would reach a later development with the arrival of new settlers from other Spanish kingdoms. They would have periods of crisis and prosperity. In the last century, with the mechanization of the rural work, Agrón, a town eminently dedicated to agriculture, starts decaying. In the decade of 1960 its population began to descend from more than thousand inhabitants to the present ones.
The cultivation production of Agrón provides its neighbours with olive oil of quality, cereals, chick-peas, vegetables, almonds and table olives. Among its traditional recipes the rabbit in almond sauce and the homemade chacinas, as well as the cured jam stand out.
