This town is located only a few kilometres from the Granada capital and is part of the Natural Park of the Huétor Mountain range. It is an area of Medium Mountain formed mainly by oaks and quejigos, with its white profile under a peak it has aspect of mountain town. In it is possible to enjoy the impressive natural places as the Peñon de la Mata, peak of 2,500 meters of altitude from which it can be contemplated practically the entire fertile plain and Sierra Nevada.
Great part of its district is integrated in the Natural Park of the Huétor Mountain range, where it is possible to practice trekking, speleology, climbing, para-gliding and hang-gliding. There are also beautiful places in Cogollos Vega, like the birth of the Bermejo River or the so called Barranco Hondo, and it is not far either the Cubillas reservoir.
It has been populated by humans since the Palaeolithic period. Some rests of that time, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs have been found in the area. Some historians think that its name comes from the Latin name Quqululus. Its proximity to the Granada’s capital has always marked its history sharing with it the events of the Reconquest and the later repopulation policy. This locality was a farmhouse assigned to the district of the Fertile plain next to other populations that surround the city of Granada (Alhendín, Alfacar, Víznar...). In its district there were as well the farmhouses of the Taucha, Lomilla de Vítar, Alcudia and Las Taulas.
From Cogollos Vega the pringue cakes, the rice with country rabbit and the hornazos of the Dia de la Cruz stand out. This day is typical to finish the meals tasting a little chocolate.
