Cogollos de Guadix is located in the North limit of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, being part of the mountain space that the Arabs called Sened. Its magnificent natural surroundings turns it into the perfect place to hike, and to make excursions on bicycle or horse. In places like the Pantaneta, the old Forest House, the Rock of the Image, the Route of the Arab Mills or the Way of the Vines the visitor will enjoy the mountain range and its natural fountains.
Cogollos de Guadix has prehistoric origins, because in its surroundings rest of the remote Argaric culture have been documented, on which an Iberian-Roman settlement settled down later. A small treasure with Punic, Roman and Visigoth jewels and coins, was found in it years ago. Although during the high Middle Age several Christian places survive in its surroundings, with cult to San Marcos and San Pedro, little by little they would be diluted until ending up disappearing completely during the Nasrid period. After the Reconquista, it was given to the Marques of Villena, in whose power it would remain until the suppression of the estates in the XIX century.
In this locality good almonds and good oil can be enjoyed. Typical dishes are migas, the andrajos serranos and gachas. Wines of the different areas of the town can also be consumed.
