This anejo of Moclín is the greatest population centre of the district and is where the greatest amount of leisure places is concentrated. The history of this town begins in the Palaeolithic period as the archaeological findings of the area testify. Its name comes from the Latin and it means Port of Wolves. During the Muslim period it was a safe villa between the Castilian and the Nasrid kingdom. The Arabs gave it its port character, since when the borders of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada were settled down, in period of truce, only three points, Puerto Lope among, were designated throughout the entire border - from Algeciras to Almeria - for the accomplishment of commercial changes. During the French invasion of the XIX century the district was devastated, but since then this town has been growing in inhabitants and importance.
