This core is located very near to the capital of the district, so that they seem in fact the same town. During centuries, its parochial church, dated in the XVI century, had the capital of filigrees. Mondújar owed its importance to its medieval castle, already disappeared, and that was scene of the death of the penultimate king of the Granada’s dynasty, Muley Hacén. This king built the castle for Isabel de Solis, turned to the Islam faith with the name of Soraya.
