The Rábita owes its name to the construction of the Ribat or fortress-monastery, since at the Nasrid period this settlement was an important strategic point of defence in the coast. In the surrounding area of the castle the population of the Rábita built their houses and grow, and in the XVIII century the Watch Towers of Punta Negra, Rabita and Huarea were constructed, with which the marine defence of this town was fortified and extended.
At the moment, the better conserved Tower is the Tower of the Rábita, from where, in addition, the marine horizon can be seen. You should not miss a summer dusk from this tower.
Another one of the most attractive monuments of the Rábita is the Parochial Church of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad de la Virgen, in whose main altar there is a great altarpiece that shows the images of San Isidro, San Antonio, the Virgin of the Sea and San Juan, among others.
