Tourist information

Its privileged situation and the purity of their waters converted this place in one of the favourites for the recreation of the Ziries kings. In fact, they retired to the area to spend the Pasqua de los "Alaceres", the grape picking in autumn and their "azahazcas", celebrations and games.

Alfacar is one of the access points to the Natural Park of the Mountain range of Huétor. Surrounded by the Mountain range of the Alfaguara, this Mediterranean climate town is linked between leafy masses of pines and oaks. There are plenty of monuments of the Arab and Christian period that the visitor will be able to visit, and they have varied celebrations and traditions in which you will be able to participate.

History

The first indications of the existence of this settlement date from the Neolithic period, as many archaeological remains testify. Nevertheless they are of Ziri period (1010-1090) the news that we received that they identify it with the settlement, is when it is mentioned to al-Fajjar "farmhouse of the potter or clays". Al-Jatib and Ibn Battuta (XIV and XV centuries) mention so much as leisure place, as scene of fights of the last years of Reconquest. The 22 of December of 1491 the "Capitulations of Alfacar" are signed by the Muslim inhabitants. The Pragmatic Law of expulsion of the moriscs of Felipe II (1579) also affected this town that happened to be repopulated with several Castilian families. In one of the ravines between Alfacar and Víznar the poet Federico Garcia Lorca was assassinated.

Gastronomy

The home made bread of great quality and flavour has given fame to Alfacar, where they had many flour mills. Other traditional dishes of the town are the alimoje with cod or eggs, and gachas with honey. The mushrooms also are a typical component of the recipes that are elaborated in this villa.
