Purchil, whose Arab name has also been translated as “tower of the Moon”, has the capital of the district and is the headquarters of the Vegas del Genil City council. Its church is dedicated to San Jose and conserves in its interior different pieces of great artistic value. An anonymous sculpture of the Virgin of the Dolores of the end of the XVI century, two carvings of Pedro de Mena of the end of the XVII, a Virgin with Kid and the Virgin of Bethlehem stand out.
