Of the different cortijos that were included in 1789 in the district of Chimeneas, only the one of Tajarja was able to prosper until acquiring the category of town. The present anejo of Castillo de Tajarja belonged to the Marques of Mondéjar and it conserved in its surroundings the ruins of the old medieval castle that gave it the name until the XIX century.
