In this village live about 1,300 neighbours who base their economy on the irrigated land agriculture. It was born as a village in the Boquete de Zafarraya, next to the royal road Malaga-Granada. At the beginning of the XX century it enjoyed an economic wealth, with the construction of a railway station that worked until the decade of 1960. The population has significantly increased the last years thanks to the tourism and the agricultural sector.
