Castillo de Baños, Haza del Lino, Haza del Trigo, La Guapa, La Mamola and Polopos are towns of this district . Castillo de Baños, located in the coast, in a small plain called Puerta de Baños. La Mamola, also coastal and fishing town, which is located at the bottom of a hill crowned by a tower watch.
Polopos has all the enchantment of the Andalusian coastal towns and also the ideal conditions to enjoy the best things of the mountain, the sea and the sun. Placed between the Mediterranean Sea and the beautiful place of the Haza de Lino, in the La Contraviesa Mountain, the town houses several population centres that allow to enjoy typical towns, amiable and laborious people, beaches of clean waters as well as natural surroundings that remain virgin enough.
Another of the attractions of this town is its historical-artistic patrimony. The constructions of the Arab Tower of Cautor, the Hornabeque of Castillo de Baños, the parochial church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Polopos and the one of Asuncion in the Mamola stand out.
During the Islamic domination this town belonged to the Tahá de Gran Cehel, period from which its origins date. Polopos was given to the last Nasrid king, Boabdil, and when he retired to Africa, it was integrated to the Castile Crown. Fernando the Catholic King sold it to one of the conquerors of the house of Portocarrero. Later Polopos lived the rebellion on its Moorish and their later expulsion. In the XIX century it was known as prosperous area due to its production of raisins, wines and liqueurs, as well as by its mills.
Polopo offers a rich and varied gastronomy, with the best things of the sea and of the land. The fried fish or black pudding, bacon, marinated pork, the different ways to cook choto, the casseroles and the fish stews stand out. There is also variety in its desserts: fig bread, egg twisted rolls, buñuelos, fried biscuits and cakes of chicharrones among others.
