Separated hardly three kilometres one from the other, Lobras and Tímar are the population centres that form the district of Lobras, being the first one the capital of the district.
Tímar is a patrimony by itself. It seems that the centuries have not passed in this town and that its urban configuration has been retained in time. This town conserves rests of rain tanks and a Mozarab fortress.
The atmosphere of peace and tranquillity that is breathed here turns these towns into a suitable place to escape from the stress of the urban noise. It is necessary to emphasize that although the citizens between Lobras and Tímar hardly surpass the hundred and fifty people; all the houses of both towns are in use and good state since they have been acquired by families of other places that use them as second residences.
In Lobras, the parochial church of San Agustín was built in the XVI century in Mudejar style. The one of Tímar however is bad conserved. The tradition to take in procession an image of Jesus known as Señor de la Ascension, whose protection was requested during the tragic earthquake of 1884, on Christmas day is still kept. It is lost, by the remarkable reduction of the young population, the custom to place bunches of flowers in the doors of the houses where unmarried women lived the day of San Juan Baptist.
This district was born during the first years of Islamic domination, although the existence of an old mercury exploitation, now inactivated, does not discard that there was a previous settlement. It suffered the ups and downs of the Reconquista War and the violent episodes caused by the rise of the Moorish, expelled after the repression of the armies of Juan of Austria. Since the depopulation process suffered in the XVI century, it has not been a great population centre. Nowadays, the population stays thanks to the rural tourism.
In Lobras oil, almonds and maize are produced, as well as wine for domestic consumption. One of the most characteristic recipes is the fritadilla of San Agustín (traditional meal of that celebration), cooked with lamb meat or pork chopped, green peppers, aubergines, tomatoes, roasted peppers and extra virgin olive oil.
