Cetursa, the company that manages the Sierra Nevada ski resort, also offers outings on horseback in the summer months. You can ride along the trail to the Laguna de las Yeguas (Mare’s Lagoon), where the Rio Dílar begins.
The full tour takes approximately 2 hours and you do not have to be an expert rider. It is a quiet and easy route, fun and safe for inexperienced riders. You do require the right clothes for the altitudes of the Sierra Nevada, some sun cream and perhaps a friend or two to make the experience unforgettable.
The tour starts at Hoya de la Mora. From here the group heads gradually uphill through the ski slopes (tours take place when there is no snow) until reaching Borreguiles del Monachil. The horses continue at a steady pace – they never trot or gallop.
Having reached Borreguiles del Monachil, the group moves on to the Laguna de las Yeguas hill, finishing at the point where the Rio Dílar starts. Here there is the beautiful lagoon itself as well as a number of smaller lagoons known as Lagunillos de la Virgen.
