Sugarcane has shaped the landscape, history and industry of Granada’s Costa Tropical for over a thousand years. This crop was introduced in the 10th
century, when it particularly thrived in the Valle de Guadalfeo. The premium rum, Ron Montero
, has been produced here for over half a century. It is a family-owned company that uses traditional production methods to produce two types of rum; Palido and Gran Reserva. Ron Mondero
is created in the same area and is also excellent.
With the sloe berries found in Sierra Nevada, very good sloe gin is made in the town of Monachil.
Between the Costa Tropical and the Sierra Nevada, in the Valle de Lecrín in the municipality of Padula, Embrujo de Granada pure malt whiskey and 12/11 gin are distilled.
