This watchtower dates back to the Arab period, and is the only one still standing of a series of watchtowers that guarded the route between Granada and Alhama.
The watchtower is located in the Hacienda de San Rafael, near where the Barranco de la Zahora and the Barranco de las Zarzas are.
This is a typical octagonal building built on a circular base. From here you can see almost all of the former Quempe lands and all of the areas surrounding the Río Cacín. Currently it is located within a private estate, so permission to visit the tower should be arranged in advance.
