During the festivities the popular re-enactment of the battle between Moors and Christians takes place. It is one of the most boisterous and fun celebrations in the province. A great deal of gunpowder and many firecrackers are used during the battle in the town square. According to tradition the festivities are in honour of San Sebastián to commemorate the battle fought nearby between Juan of Austria and his troops and the Moorish rebels. The performance is divided into three parts: the first ends in the victory of the Moors; the second and third parts depict the victory of the Christians. The play is acted out by local youths.
