Fondly known as the Casa del Inglés, this is where the writer and Spanish scholar Gerald Brenan lived for 14 years. It is one of the main attractions of Yegen, where fans of his work come and visit.
Brenan lived in La Alpujarra from 1919 to 1936. On 13th January 1920, he settled in the village of Yegen, where he had numerous children with a number of different local girls. That same spring he welcomed Ralph Partridge of the Bloomsbury Group into his home as well as Dora Carrington and Lytton Strachey. In 1923 Leonard and Virginia Woolf visited him too.
Brenan spent long periods of time in this house, where he was able to find peace and tranquillity, as well as the time to pursue his favourite pastimes; reading and hiking. The locals referred to him as Don Gerardo.
