The International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada is one of the most attractive and one of the oldest festivals of Spain. Artistic activities of great quality are celebrated in the most symbolic corners of the city. The concerts of great symphonic orchestras in the Palace of Carlos V, the dance and the ballet in the theatre of the Generalife or the concerts in the Patio of the Arrayanes are some examples that congregate more than 30,000 people every year.
The symphonic concerts that from 1883 were developed in the Palace of Carlos V, in the Alhambra, during the celebrations of the Corpus Christi were the germ of the Festival birth that celebrated its first edition in the summer of 1952. Although in its origin it had also great influence the Cante Jondo Contest of 1922, with Manuel de Falla, Federico Garcia Lorca, Santiago Rusiñol and Andrés Segovia like impellers.
Although in the festival other music styles and lyric performances are shown in the programme, also cante jondo is present over the serie ‘Trasnoches Flamencos’.
