To the north of Puebla de Don Fadrique, on the road from La Losa, in the Alqueria de Rosales, there is a modern mosque where courses in Islamic studies are taught. Together with the mosque in Granada’s Albaicín, this is the most active in the province.
The word ‘alqueria’ comes from the Arabic word for farmstead (qarya) and refers to a small community or rural village. This complex consists of a rural estate of 127 hectares located in the Sierra de Segura. It has 4,000 square meters of facilities including:
- Spacious rooms (capacity for 100 people)
- Mosque (550 square meters)
- Conference room (capacity 300 people)
- Classrooms and library
- Research laboratories and area for the conservation of manuscripts
- Multi-functional sports area
- Swimming pool
- Riding area
- Agricultural and forest land
The Alqueria de Rosales is an educational, cultural and residential complex offering learning and research facilities with a focus on the preservation of Muslim and Al-Andalus heritage.
Its library has over 3,000 volumes and includes a private collection of Islamic manuscripts.
The Alqueria de Rosales also offers a wide range of leisure activities for families, groups and individuals such as cultural visits, sports activities and workshops.
