Built in the XVI Century to commemorate the visit of the Emperor, hence it is also known as the Puerta de Carlos V. It is at the bottom of the forest of the Alhambra, on the street called the Cuesta de Gomerez. The gateway follows a design based on the idea of a Roman triumphal arch, and it gets its name from the enormous pomegranates carved in stone that decorate the doorway lintel.
